Glossary (A–M)

Asian Handicap (AH)#

A betting market in which one team begins with a virtual handicap. Asian Handicap markets reduce or eliminate the possibility of a draw by introducing quarter-goal and half-goal handicaps.

Behavioral Consistency Index (BCI)#

A composite behavioural assessment describing how consistently a strategy behaves under changing conditions.

It evaluates stake discipline, recovery behaviour, timing stability, variance response, exposure concentration, behavioural drift, and other structural characteristics.

BCI measures behavioural stability, not profitability.

Behavioral Regime#

A distinct period in the chronological history where the strategy exhibits a relatively stable behavioural pattern.

Examples include:

  • Stable Growth
  • Recovery Cycle
  • Flat
  • Drawdown Phase

Regimes describe historical behaviour rather than future expectations.

Behavioral Trajectory#

The overall direction in which the strategy's behavioural characteristics have evolved over time.

Trajectory compares earlier and later portions of the betting history to identify broad structural changes.

CLV (Closing Line Value)#

The difference between the odds obtained when the bet was placed and the final market closing price.

Positive CLV indicates that bets were generally placed at prices better than the market close.

Negative CLV indicates worse execution relative to the closing market.

CLV is widely used as a proxy for execution quality but should never be interpreted as proof of long-term profitability.

Composite Rating#

BetMirror's overall quality summary.

It combines:

  • Stability
  • Edge Reliability
  • Behavioral Consistency

Each component remains independently visible to preserve transparency.

Contradiction#

A structural disagreement between analytical modules.

Contradictions occur when different behavioural dimensions point toward different conclusions.

They are diagnostic observations rather than warnings.

CV (Coefficient of Variation)#

A standardized measure of stake variability.

Within BetMirror it replaces the mathematical notation σ/μ inside PDF exports for compatibility reasons.

Lower CV generally indicates more consistent stake sizing.

Decision Summary#

The highest-level operational summary presented near the beginning of every evaluation. It combines the major structural conclusions from multiple modules into a concise overview without replacing the detailed analysis.

Drawdown#

The largest cumulative decline experienced before recovering to a previous equity peak. Drawdown is one of the primary indicators of bankroll stress and survivability.

Drift Velocity#

A second-order behavioural metric describing how the market edge evolves through time. Unlike Edge Persistence, Drift Velocity focuses on the direction and pace of change rather than the current level of the edge.

Edge#

A measurable advantage over the betting market.

BetMirror treats edge as an observable structural characteristic rather than a guaranteed source of future profit.

Edge Attribution#

A diagnostic module separating potential sources of edge into independent components such as:

  • Execution
  • Timing
  • Market Selection

The module explains where the observed advantage appears to originate rather than how large it is.

Edge Persistence#

Measures whether the current market edge remains consistent with the strategy's long-term historical baseline. Persistence evaluates the stability of the edge itself rather than whether it is accelerating or slowing.

Edge Reliability Score (ESR)#

A confidence measure describing how reliable the observed market edge appears based on supporting evidence.

It considers factors including:

  • market quality;
  • CLV coverage;
  • persistence;
  • and dependence on outlier bets.

ESR evaluates confidence in the evidence, not the size of the edge itself.

Execution Quality#

The ability to consistently obtain prices that compare favourably with the efficient market. Execution quality is primarily assessed through Closing Line Value and related market interaction metrics.
